Ask any veteran what they miss most about the military and the answer will always be the same, "my battle-buddies". Our group, Life: Together, gathers veterans and their families every week to share a meal, enjoy each other's company, and develop life-long relationships that haven't been had since they were in-service.
Trips to the zoo, aquarium, Ceder Point, etc. have the two-fold benefit of providing activities and outreaching to other veterans.
Veterans in nursing homes often feel forgotten and ignored. We visit nursing homes monthly and conduct an appreciation ceremony to show the veteran residents they are not forgotten and their sacrifices are still honored.
Fairs and events offer the opportunity to spread awareness about PTSD, show there is healing available, and give hope by providing a ministry of presence to veterans and their spouses.
Recreational activities and classes will also be available, including: woodworking, fishing, photography, and cooking.
Our community is full of people who want to help. We work to help those providing services connect with the people who need them. Many military families are either unaware of the services available for them, or have been too proud to seek help. Warrior's Respite changes that. Our organization also allows other groups to give back to the veteran community through volunteer opportunities.
In war, QRF (Quick-Reaction Force) is a group of designated soldiers on standby; ready to rush off base and respond to help fellow soldiers pinned down in a firefight. The Veteran's Crisis Line has a huge shortcoming: it's impersonal. The veteran is in a dark place, ready to end their battle, and they have to carry on a conversation over the phone, often with civilians. Our MHQRF will be made of veterans who have received suicide prevention training and are ready to respond, in-person, 24/7, to a veteran in crisis at the veteran's home. These selfless men and women will be the backup a veteran needs when they're under fire.
Community Connections, Life: Together, and Mental-Health QRF will be available after Warrior's Respite has a location
